Jane Millgate is Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Toronto and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and of the Royal Society of Canada. She is the author of Macaulay (1973), Walter Scott: The Making of the Novelist (1984), Scott's Last Edition: A Study in Publishing History (1987), and of numerous articles on Scott and other nineteenth-century authors. Her Union Catalogue of the Correspondence of Sir Walter Scott, comprising approximately 14000 records for letters from and to Scott, is published by the National Library of Scotland.
